MARIA CLARA PORTELA
Screenwriter

Maria Clara Portela is a Brazilian screenwriter, director, and actress from Paraíba. She is currently completing her BA in Audiovisual Studies at the University of São Paulo. She worked as a writers’ assistant on the teen fiction podcast Depois Que Tudo Mudou (Globoplay) and as a screenwriting intern on the Amazon Prime Video holiday comedy O Primeiro Natal do Mundo. For television, she was a writers’ assistant on season 10 of Que Seja Doce and season 7 of The Taste Brasil (both on GNT). In 2021, she was selected for Globo’s Black and Indigenous Storytelling Lab. Her short film Domênica, Toda de branco…, which she wrote, co-directed, and starred in, is currently in post-production. Maria Clara is also a staff writer at Mauricio de Sousa Produções and is developing her first feature-length screenplay through the New Voices Program.
